Chapter 01
Six to eight inches below grade
We grind every stump down six to eight inches below the surrounding grade, not just flush with the ground. That depth is what lets you replant grass straight over the top instead of staring at a bare patch, or a slowly rotting stump, for the next few years.
It is a small difference in depth that decides whether a yard looks finished or still looks like a tree used to be there.

Utility lines located first
Before the grinder ever starts, we locate utility lines running through the area. A grinder works below the surface, and a line buried near an old stump is exactly the kind of thing you do not want to find out about the hard way.
Chapter 03
The grindings
Once the grinding is done, the debris above grade, wood chips, root flare and all, leaves with us unless you tell us otherwise. Plenty of people want to keep the grindings for mulch or fill, and that is fine. Just let us know before we load the truck.
Either way, the hole gets backfilled and leveled so the spot is ready for grass, not left as a mound of chips in the middle of the yard.
